SRL has just shipped a little over 45,000 lbs of ‘obnoxious cargo’ to the Netherlands last week (August 1st). The crew will meet the machines in Amsterdam next month and begin preparing for the finale of the Robodock Festival on 22 Sept 2007.
To keep up to date with crew activities pre and post show, check the SRL Robodock page periodically.

We need $2M please!
SRL is at a crossroads. The Shop, SRL HQ for 25 some odd years, must move, change and/or cease to exist.
SRL has created mayhem for the world to enjoy and now SRL needs real help.
Mark and Amy have been on a real-estate hunt for the past couple of years up and down the Bay Area and beyond.. looking arduously for the right home for both The Shop and their family. There have been multiple starts and stops and they are talking to city and county officials and planners everywhere they go.
The Critchett/Pauline’s will sell their home that they love in order to make this work. But the needs are unique and this quest is proving problematic.
We have found the perfect ranch which is 20 acres, 13,000 sq foot of shop workspace a house and room for the crew to come and stay.
It is $2,250,000
If you have enjoyed the impact SRL has made on the world and if you
have some M to spare. It would be much, much appreciated. The world
will appreciate you for helping keep SRL viable.
Please contact amy [at] srl [dot] org
Thank you!

This is a piece of the rocket motor casing that blew up Mark’s hand last century. The blast was enough to deeply embed this piece deep into the telephone pole. Luckily, shrapnel didn’t hit Mark!

Last year’s Ghostly Scenes of Infernal Desecration: An SRL End of Days Production was filmed by a stellar crew of film makers and videographers and the result is an amazing edit by Ian Williamson and Babalou where the audience is immersed within a 16 channel audio recording, putting them into the middle of the performance, while 10 10′ screens surround them with a multi-camera, multi-screen edited video. By far the most accurate reproduction of an SRL show, as well as an experience impossible to have live.
Watch this site for more details on when and where it will be shown!

Preview of the edit was held at the SRL shop for the crew, usual shenanigans ensue

Mark Pauline: Survival Research Laboratories
Media Arts lecture

Nahl Hall, Oakland campus
Info: 510.594.3656
Survival Research Laboratories (SRL) was conceived of and founded by
Mark Pauline in November 1978. Since then, SRL has operated as an
organization of creative technicians dedicated to redirecting the
techniques, tools, and tenets of industry, science, and the military
away from their typical manifestations in practicality, product, and
warfare.
Since 1979, SRL has staged over 45 mechanized presentations. Each
performance consists of a unique set of ritualized interactions
between machines, robots, and special effects devices, employed in
developing themes of sociopolitical satire. Humans are present only
as audience or operators.
